We all know the saying "New Year, New Me". Word around the office has been about our New Year's goals, and who has actually been following through on them after the first month into the new year.
We've been discussing how to stick to our goals, both personal and professional, longer than the first couple of weeks into January. How realistic are your goals with your available time to commit and follow through?
We came up with some ideas we feel can keep us on track for a great 2014:
- Be Realistic - Don't set a goal that you know won't work for your schedule or available time commitment. This is especially important in the work place, don’t set yourself up to fail before you even have a chance to win!
- Outline your goal - Make a point of where you want to be in 3, 6, and 9 months. Once you make it to your first set date, the next will come easier. This is a great way to outline where you hope to be professionally with your company.
- Talk about your goal - Tell your friends, family, and co-workers what your goal is, support from others around you is the best way to follow through with a goal. Don't keep it a secret!
- Track your progress - It always feels good to look back and realize how many weeks or months you have accomplished at a set point in time. Keep track of the progress you have made with whatever it is that you are working on!
- Stick to it - Experts say it takes around 3 weeks for something to become a habit, take it day-by-day and your goal will become a part of your daily routine before you know it. Don't let one bad afternoon or a discouraging conversation make you stray from your goal, keep pushing forward!
We want to know, do you have something in mind to help you stick to your goals for the year?
