Our award-winning studio team specializes in advanced corporate video projects, typically working on several at a time. We recently completed some exciting projects with one of our favorite clients – First Solar.
First Solar, with its worldwide headquarters in Tempe, AZ, is a leading global provider of photovoltaic solar energy solutions. Their Series 4 Modules are different than conventional crystalline silicon solar panels in that they “deliver up to 9% more annual energy for the same nameplate watts.” First Solar enlisted the help of New Angle Studios to create a video showcasing this product.
This video project, discussing the specifications of the First Solar Series 4 Modules, offered a great opportunity to combine motion graphics and 3D animation. Using skills gained from previous projects and implementing a new solution along the way, this was the final result:
In order to achieve an engaging video, multiple camera angles and shots needed to be created. It was decided that extreme close-ups were also needed in order to properly showcase specific, detailed sections of the product.
The process of completing this video was separated into two parts; 3D animation and motion graphics. Studio Director, Rory Gonzalez, worked on the graphical elements of the video, while Senior Production Manager, David Cervantes, and the rest of their staff worked on the 3D modeling process.
Once the 3D model was generated, the team added the texture wrap. In testing out the extreme close-ups they wanted to achieve, it was discovered greater resolution would be needed. Not skipping a beat, David jumped into R&D mode to find a solution to this texture mapping pixilation problem and, after a bit of research, he found code to make the texture wrap scale to 4K size. The 4K resolution enabled them to get really close to the object without losing any of the quality; extreme close-ups (and highly detailed shots of the product) achieved!
Next, David imported the assets (3D models and texture wraps) he’d created into After Effects using a plugin called Element. Using After Effects with the Element plugin, he and Rory were able to capture all of the camera angles, make quicker changes and look at the camera movement in real time. The collaboration between New Angle Studios and First Solar could not have been better and we are honored to have them as a client.
